The Montgomery County Humane Society’s Private Rescue on South Stonestreet Avenue hosted its first-ever Meow Mixer in January. Over 60 guests mingled with adoptable kitties and cat owners over specialty martinis, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Click here to see photos taken by Houndstooth Photography.
"I think everyone had a great time at the Meow Mixer," said Beth Price, long-standing MCHS supporter and cat room volunteer. "It was a fun time and I truly enjoyed meeting all the cats as well as the folks I had never met before. The food and drinks were outstanding, especially the Kitty-tini!"
Rescue and Foster Operations Manager Robert Henne discussed goals and plans for 2009, including adding a catwalk between the cat rooms to be funded by Adventist Health Care, and murals to be painted by Carol Sher’s husband, Eric; improving air conditioning, parking and signage; and renegotiating pricing on food, cleaning products and other supplies. He also noted that in fiscal year 2008 we adopted out 490 cats.
Sher displayed her witty pieces of "Life with Lulu and Mew" and donated 15% of sales to MCHS. Houndstooth Photography also assisted with event and donated a $300 photographic session as a door prize. Future bookings Houndstooth Photography receives from the event will kick-back 15% of sales. Wagging Tails Thrift Store donated a basket for a door prize, won by Marjorie Klein.
The Meow Mixer raised approximately $1,100 with proceeds benefitting McKinley and other special needs animals through Joey’s Friends’ Fund. If you met this loveable guy who found comfort in the arms of new President & CEO Cris Bombaugh, you’ll be pleased to know that he was adopted just a few days ago by Sally, an MCHS employee.
