Program provides anytime access to adoptable animals

with the click of the remote control

Rockville, Md. – August 31, 2009Comcast and the Montgomery County Humane Society are now providing animal lovers in the Washington, D.C. Metro region with around-the-clock access to adoptable companions. Comcast Digital Cable customers in the area can tune to Pet Adoptions On Demand any time of the day or night to view video profiles of animals at the shelter in need of loving homes.

"We are delighted to partner with Comcast to showcase the variety of animals we have available for adoption, from cats and dogs to birds, guinea pigs and rabbits," said Cris Bombaugh, president and CEO of the Montgomery County Humane Society. "With Comcast’s On Demand technology, we can help place them all into safe and loving homes by providing a convenient way for potential pet owners to learn about their personalities and attributes at their leisure and from the comfort of their own living rooms."

"Comcast is always looking for ways to leverage its technology to make a positive impact in the communities where we live and work," said Noah Kodeck, director of On Demand programming and production for Comcast. "Pet Adoptions On Demand is just one example of our unique 'Get Local' programming, which connects our customers to issues and interests that are important to them, and we are pleased to partner with the Montgomery County Humane Society to provide another valuable service to our community."

Through this partnership, Comcast will make available via its signature On Demand service regularly refreshed video profiles of dogs, cats and other small animals available for adoption from the Montgomery County Humane Society.  Comcast Digital Cable customers in the Washington, D.C. Metro region can view the profiles at any time and at no additional cost by visiting the "Get Local" section of the main On Demand menu and selecting "Pet Adoptions".

In the profiles, Montgomery County Humane Society staff members interact with each animal and talk about its unique personality and ideal living environment.  Profiles, ranging in length from one to two minutes, are categorized by animal type and size. Each pet profile includes a unique identification number. Viewers who are interested in visiting or adopting an animal featured on Pet Adoptions On Demand can visit the Montgomery County Humane Society website at www.mchumane.org for more information.

Pet Adoptions On Demand is another example of the wide variety of original, video on demand programming offered by Comcast. Comcast’s signature On Demand service offers more than 10,000 titles each month, with the vast majority available at no additional cost for customers to watch when they want, with the ability to pause, fast-forward and rewind. Comcast customers are currently selecting On Demand more than 300 million times per month.

Our mission is to provide humane education, give shelter, prevent pain and cruelty, and to place all animals in appropriate environments, with a goal of zero euthanasia for all adoptable animals.

MCHS receives funds to operate the Montgomery County Animal Shelter under a grant from county government and from private donations. The only full-service shelter in the county, MCHS is open for emergencies 24/7 and never turns away an animal. In 2008 we handled approximately 9,200 animals.
