The Votes Are Tallied!

Sydney, the 6 year-old miniature Australian Shepherd, owned by the Xydis family of Montgomery County placed in the top ten among 20 finalists in the Firedog Contest co-sponsored by Circuit City and Kodak.

The winner was determined through online votes. Sydney received 2,995 votes and ranked 8th place out of 20 other competing dogs.

“I entered the contest quite spontaneously,” shares mother, Colleen Xydis. The Firedog Contest was a national contest with over 6,000 entries to find the next dog to appear in a Circuit City TV ad.

Even though Sydney didn’t win the grand prize, Circuit City and Kodak donated $3,995 to the Montgomery County Humane Society. $1 for each online vote, plus an additional $1,000.

The Xydis family chose MCHS to receive the benefits. “We adopted a kitten from MCHS when we first moved to Montgomery County 25 years ago and were very impressed with the quality of service your organization provided especially the follow up care to make sure the pet was in a happy home.”

MCHS is very grateful for the donation from Circuit City and will use the funds to continue our efforts to curb pet overpopulation by promoting Spay Day USA and our No-Cost and Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program on February 27th.
