Foster Program
Adoption Process
And Fees
"It is only through your willingness
to open your hearts and your
homes, that we are able to give
an animal a second chance in life. "
|
| Visit with the pet you are interested in adopting. |
| Fill out an adoption application. The more information you can provide on the application the quicker the process. |
| The application then goes to the adoption desk for processing. |
| All family members will need to visit with the animal before the application is processed. |
| The adoption desk will process the application in about 5-7 days. |
They will call the vet and make sure current pets are up to date with a rabies shot.
|
| If you are renting, they will confirm with the landlord that pets are allowed and what the pet deposit will be. |
| Then the application will be assigned to one of our adoption counselors for an interview. |
| If you are adopting a dog, a home visit will be conducted. |
| If you are adopting a cat and have never owned a cat before, a home visit will be conducted. |
| If you are adopting a cat and have had a cat before, the adoption counselor will most likely do a phone interview. That will be up to the discretion of the counselor. They still might choose to do a home visit. |
| Once the Adoption Counselor completes your interview, they will let you know whether or not you are approved. |
| If you are approved, you would need to contact the foster parent as well as the adoption desk to make arrangements to take your new friend home. |
What The Adoption Fee Covers:
|
The Adoption Fees listed below include flea treatment, de-worming, distemper vaccinations, rabies vaccination for dogs and cats over the age of 4 months, bordatella, heartworm (dogs) or FELV/FIV testing (cats), spay/neuter (dogs and cats), ID tag, collar, and micro-chip.
All dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens 3 months or older will be surgically sterilized before adoption. Adopters, who live in Montgomery County, of kittens and puppies 8-12 weeks, will sign a sterilization agreement and have 30 days to spay/neuter the kitten or puppy unless they are adopting an opposite sex pair. In this case, as least one of the pair must be neutered before adoption.
For out of county adopters, all the animals will be altered before going to their new homes. |
