About Us

Foster Cats:

The animals on this page are available only to adopters in the County, and within the Metro DC/Northern Virginia area; if in doubt about whether we adopt to your location within this area, please call or email for verification.

This cute kitten’s foster name is Tony/ Foster.  He loves to play with string and balls, but the fish is definitely his favorite. He enjoys climbing and pouncing on toys.  When he's really tired, he likes to sleep on his back in the sun with his paws in the air.  Tony is a friendly kitten and his sociability will make him a wonderful cat companion for anyone.  If you are interested in adopting him, contact his foster mom, Rachel @ raebecker@gmail.com for more information.
Magellan/Foster, just like his brother, Tony/Foster loves to play with string and balls, but the fish is definitely his favorite.  Magellan is an explorer; he runs to the door to greet everyone and is always up for an adventure.  He spends long stretches of time looking at the fish tank.  He always wakes up purring and likes to rub up against you as soon as his eyes open. If you are interested in adopting him, contact his foster mom, Rachel @ raebecker@gmail.com for more information.

Volvo/Foster is looking for a quiet home and a loving person. She has a gentle and affectionate personality, but she had very little contact with people at her previous home and can be shy and scared of noise or commotion. Volvo already loves to snuggle with her foster mom, a good sign that she will become a happy, confident cat. She will need additional socializing with a patient person in a quiet home. Volvo is 6 months old, spayed, and current on her vaccinations. If interested, contact Kate @ lkl1@hood.edu/phone 301-620-4043.

Kenya/Foster is as sweet as she beautiful. She is a little shy at first, but once you gain her trust, she loves you with her whole heart. She is 6 years old, declawed in the front, has perfect litter box manners, and is current on her vaccinations. If interested, contact Kate @ lkl1@hood.edu/phone 301-620-4043.
If you're looking for a cat who will make himself at home right from the start, Gibbs/Foster may be the cat for you. From the first day in his foster mom's home, Gibbs sauntered around as if he owned the joint, rubbing his face on the furniture to mark it as his property and then lying on the couch as if he'd lived there his entire life. In addition to being a supremely confident cat, Gibbs is also very affectionate, loving nothing more than to sit on a lap and be the center of attention. Gibbs is 4 years old, neutered, and current on his vaccinations. If interested, contact Kate @ lkl1@hood.edu or 301-620-4043.
Ballet/Foster is a really, really sweet Calico. I know that's unusual for that type of cat, but she is an exception. She gets along with everyone and other cats. She is affectionate and loving. She is just 2 years old and what beautiful coloring she has. She is being cared for in a foster home. If you are interested in adopting her and you live in the MD/DC/VA area, contact the foster, Deborah @ 240-912-6275/email dk0147@msn.com
Harper/Foster is a two year old female calico cat. This is a gentle, sweet tempered cat who never tries to bite or scratch even when very angry about being given pain medicine following her spay surgery. This cat is very well behaved around small children. Harper is a lap cat. She loves people and seeks out the company of humans in the house. If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact Katherine @ ktylitter@hotmail.com
Tyler/Foster is a male kitten born on 2-12-08. Tyler is almost totally black with a little bit of white on his belly. This kitten is extra loving. I think he will be a "lap cat". Tyler uses his litter box. He is accustomed to other cats and dogs. Tyler likes children and adults. For additional information, you can contact Katherine @ ktylitter@hotmail.com
This is Flicka/Foster, a pretty young lady who agrees it's time to lose some of her baby fat. All her kittens got adopted and she was left behind. Will anyone out there share some of their low-carb meals with her? She loves other cats and she's got perfect house manners. She loves to be petted and just recently started jumping in our laps. For a visit with her, call Laurie @ 301.770.9102 / badseed@erols.com (be sure to put cats or kittens in the subject line).
Ripken/Foster is such a tiny female tabbie, all black except for a white patch on her tummy that she was thought to be only four months old when she came to the shelter. Truth be told she is about 2 years old and had two kittens shortly after coming to my home.  She has beautiful silky, short, fur and is slinky like a panther.  She won't get any bigger so if you prefer small cats, Ripken is a good choice.  She gets a long well with other cats and is very expressive.  She tries repeatedly to open my bedroom door by turning the knob. No luck yet! Call or email Ann if you would like to meet Ripken: 301-706-9879/email bingaloid@yahoo.com
I'm Sparta/Foster and I'm a handsome and very charming neutered male. My sleek black coat has a small white chest tuft and white hairs scattered here and there. I'll turn on my purr-machine when I see you and I want nothing more than to be with you. I love being petted and combed. And I'll melt in your arms when you pick me up. Go ahead - carry me around the house! I'm not heavy and I'll sing to you my soothing motor song. I'll kiss your cheek and hug you. If you adopt me, you'll never be lonely. And, since I'm 7, you'll get $75 of vet services included with the adoption! I'm a gentle guy who always uses my litter box. If you want to meet me, please contact: (301) 549-4777 /email MJJaffee@hotmail.com
Clam/Foster is a young adult domestic short hair brown torbie/ocicat mix who came to the shelter with a litter of kittens. Most of them have been adopted, and now its mom's turn. There are other cats, large dogs and kids in her foster home. To learn more about this gal, contact Michelle @ 301.515.9990.

Garnet/Foster is a Sweet and spunky approximately 1 year old spayed female looking for a good home.  Gorgeous, petite, Chocolate Burmese and Tabby mix, with unique dark brown coloring, faint tabby stripes, golden eyes and a white patch on her chest.  Photos don't do her justice.  Sweet temperament and chirping meow.  Loves food, cuddling, nose kisses and watching TV and birdfeeders.  She is definitely in touch with her inner kitten and will play with anything she can get her dainty paws on, such as cat toys, office clips, bits of paper, her own tail and blanket-covered feet.  One of her favorite pastimes is wrestling with her foster mom's cat (so she would definitely get along with other cats).  Garnet is a stray so she has a mysterious past.  She has a barely-visible crick at the end of her tail, possibly from an old break, and was already spayed when she arrived at the MCHS.  Also, because of her unknown history, she may or may not be O.K. with young children or dogs.  Although she is very friendly, she is sometimes skittish when approached by a human, but is quickly learning to trust.  Garnet has good grooming and litter box habits; is healthy and up-to-date with all of her shots; and is very patient when annoying humans clip her nails or give her medicine.  If you're interested, please contact Lori Beth @ cell phone: 1-978-376-5860 / e-mail: loribethlibrarian@yahoo.com

Hi I’m Apollo/Foster (aka Tricey in my foster home), and I’m 3 years old male black and white cat.  I am a very cool cat, but you just got to get to know me in my foster home; otherwise I get kinda grumpy if you put me in a cage.  I can adapt pretty quick to a new home, and I eat dry and can food, you name it.  I like to be petted, but not too much; I just like to have some space, u know.  Sometimes I got my temper, so I do not recommend you to get so close to me.  Not that I’m mean or anything, but sometimes I lose my cool, you know how it is.  Okay, but let’s not just focus on the negative side though.  There are so many nice things about me; for example I’m so nice that I will wait for you by the door, I use my litter box all the time, and I am not shy at all so you can introduced me to all your friends.  Look at my picture, am I cute or what? I mean you just gotta see my eyes and my body, yeah I am hot!!! Oh, I speak three languages: Hi, Hola and Meow.  Unfortunately, I don’t get along with kids because then they get all the attention, and what about me?  Anyway if you want to contact me or my mommy call 202 270 4634 (our cell phone) or 301-740-3690 (my home).  Or if you are a little shy, just send me a e-mail (I’ll be glad to answer any questions you have) netmari17@hotmail.comI’ll be waiting, don’t take too long!!!!

Willie/Foster:  This handsome four-year-old neutered male is a little shy with strangers. But once he is comfortable with his surroundings, he is a friendly, affectionate cat. He would make a wonderful companion for a senior citizen or anyone with quiet home. He likes dogs and other cats, is current on his vaccinations, and always uses the litter box. If you live in the Maryland/Virginia area and would like to visit this cat or learn more info please contact Kate @ 301-620-4043/email lkl1@hermes.hood.edu

Grace/Foster is a very affectionate and loving one year old female cat.   Grace has sometimes acted more like a dog than a cat, occasionally meeting us at the door or coming when called.  Grace is also a 'talker' and will attempt to communicate with a variety of sounds and chirps.  This cat has perfect litter box manners.   In her foster home, Grace has helped care for small kittens who were not her own.  Unfortunately, this cat does not get along with other adult cats or with dogs.  If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact Katherine @  ktylitter@hotmail.com
Weed/Foster is a spayed 1 year old Torbie. She was born approx March 6, 2007. Weed/Foster is a very affectionate girl. She lives with other cats and dogs. She loves to lie on your chest at bedtime. She is very playful and always uses her litter box. She is just a wonderful addition to any home. If you would like to spend the next 20 years with Weed/Foster, please contact Jean @ jmfram@msn.com
Chaplin/Foster: Ok.... so I'm 13 yrs old. Think of me as a feline "Baby Boomer". I'm handsome, healthy and ready to start a new life. I even come with my own money in the form of a $75 Golden Oldie coupon. I am very charming and like to chirp and trill, give head butts and chin rubs. I can be quiet and dignified or wild and crazy playing with my feathers. If you are looking for an affectionate, attentive companion with all of his hair and original teeth, have your people contact my people @ shirley.watson@tok.md.gov
This gorgeous girl is Dali/Foster, but we call her "Maggie Moo". She's a sweet lady who needs a little time to get used to her new environment and person/people. Once she feels safe, Maggie will show her very playful and silly side. She can become quite attached and, if it's okay with you, she will often keep you company. She is not into treats, but Maggie loves kind words and being petted by her human(s). You will love petting her, too, because she is super soft. Although she is very gentle, we recommend she be adopted into a house without small children because she will do better as the "approacher". Maggie is approx 2 years old and has been spayed. To meet her, contact: (301) 549-4777 / email MJJaffee@hotmail.com
Frodo/Foster, a talkative black short haired teenage boy who is an almost identical twin to his brother Sam was born in his foster home in May. While strolling through the living room he looks at his foster mom to be sure all is well and squeaks to say "Hi Mom." Frodo chooses to sit on his foster mother's shoulder for love and affection as he purrs with delight. Like his brother Sam, he chooses his friends wisely. Wouldn't you be lucky to have a loving companion as engaging as Frodo who is just as accepting of adults and children alike. Call or email Ann if you would like to meet Frodo: 301-706-9879/email bingaloid@yahoo.com
Manger/Foster is medium, all grey 2 year old short hair cat. She has recently finished doing an excellent job as a mother, and is now ready to be babied at her new home. She is outgoing and affectionate, but also laid back and adapts easily. She is completely litter box trained, never has accidents, and is good with kids, other cats and adult dogs. She's comical, loving and ready to join her new family. If interested, or if you have any further questions, please contact Carrie @ Carriemassey1@yahoo.com /phone 301.549.3935

Bronze/Foster is an incredibly sweet, easy-going guy with lots of love to give.  He has luxuriously soft fur, big astonishingly bright green eyes, and a strong loud purr.  He is an 8 year old, de-clawed, neutered male with diabetes.  Bronze is a relaxed kitty cat that loves ear rubs, chin rubs and surprisingly tummy rubs.  Bronze is not worried about his two insulin injections a day because they just mean more chin rubs and back scratching. He is even happy to let his foster do the in home blood test on his ear when needed.   He is grateful for every kind word, touch, and look you give him.   Bronze will require an owner that is willing to feed him his high protein low carb diet on a daily schedule, administer his insulin, and keep up with vet visits to stabilize his diabetes.  He is currently in a foster home living with children and dogs purring away waiting to meet you.  Contact Julie @ 301-775-4272/email tjrand@earthlink.net

Since this is one of our senior pets, the adopter will receive a $75 coupon that can be used towards future veterinary visits.  In addition, any adopter who is 62 years or older will get a 50% discount on this pet.

Denmark/Foster was born on 3-28-05. She is a female domestic short hair brown tabby who is shy at first with people, but will help herself to your lap, if you let her. She is much cuter than in the picture! She is very friendly with other cats and is always looking to play. To meet her contact Tere @ 301.528.5583/email tere_diaz@hotmail.com
This little blue cream tortie, Guam/Foster, is looking for the "purr-fect" playmate and the perfect name. Besides loving to play, she's a bug catcher extraordinaire. When you come home, she'll be waiting at the door to greet you and later in the evening you can call out to her and she will come, particularly if you have something to play with. Often when you try to pet her, she tries to bath you with her tongue instead. She also likes to give little kisses in the morning to get you out of bed. She's only 2 years old and in great shape. She is current on her shots, spayed, and micro chipped. If you would like to know more contact, Carina @ 301-540-7849/email symtek2@gmail.com
Chesie/Foster  This pretty girl deserves to be in a household that has time to devote its self to her magnificence. She is okay with cats that can hold their own and rubs up against dogs. She would be best in a home with no cats but seems to really like dogs after she gets used to them. Chesie, or Biotchee as my husband calls her, wants to rule the house. She is affectionate and playful with people and doesn't hesitate to tell you all about her needs.  She is a queen among cats. A real special character who will be someone's constant companion and food critic. If you know of someone in need of Chesie’s patronage and companionship, have them call Kristie @ 301-607-4755.

Call my foster mommy for adoption information on me: Julia 301-530-0282 email: jmthompson1982@yahoo.com
Wanda/Foster is in need of a quiet home and a loving person. She's gone through a lot of upheaval recently, living in two different homes and the shelter in the past couple of weeks. She's an affectionate lap cat who gets along well with other cats. Wanda is five years old, spayed, current on her vaccinations, and always uses the litter box. If interested in Wanda, contact Kate @ lkl1@hood.edu/301-620-4043.

Canoe/Foster is a 7 year old spayed orange tabby DLH. She is considered one of our senior cats at the rescue which means she will get a $75 coupon towards future vet visit when she's adopted. She is comfortable with adults as well as children. She lives with other cat at the MCHS rescue and has lived with dogs for the past 2 years. She likes to be the "top Cat in her home and should be the only female cat. She is affectionate and calm and always uses her litter box. She likes to be brushed and with that long hair will need to be brushed often. If you are interested in giving her a fabulous home, call Diane @ 301-593-1294 or 301-520-3374/email ds88b@nih.gov
Olivier/Foster is a blue torby with gorgeous glowing green eyes. This long-legged 4-yr old is about 11 lbs, and was given up when her family had a new baby. In the past she was a mommy and an outdoor kitty, but is now spayed and has become used to indoor life. She's grown more comfortable with people once she realizes they can be trusted. Aggressive cats frighten her, but she gets along well with easy-going kitties. Although she won't let herself be picked up, she loves to be combed. She would probably do best in a home with experienced cat owners, who'll give her the time and space she'll need to learn she's safe and can depend on them. To learn more, contact Virginia @ 301.255.0188/email ldenning@mac.com To see more pictures of Olivier and other fosters in her household, Click Here
Marble/Foster is a sweet Blue Cream tortie being cared for in a foster home.  She is about 2 years old, weighs about 10 pounds, and is so beautiful.  She likes other cats and doesn’t seem to mind dogs.  If you are interested in adopting her, contact the foster Meg @ megw@his.com for more information.
Austria/Foster is being cared for in a foster home. She is a spayed female, 10 year old Tortie and white DSH.  She had been in our shelter since January and needs to find her forever home.  She’s the type of cat who likes to be left alone and do her own thing.  She doesn’t like to be held or carried and is not a lap cat.  She always uses her litter box and was given up to us because of a new baby.  Also since she is one of our senior cats, the adopter will receive a $75 coupon to use towards vet care.  If you are interested in visiting her and you live in the Maryland/Virginia area, contact the foster dad, Alan @ 301-593-3456.
Scout/Foster is a TOP CAT! Our TOP CATS come highly recommended by MCHS staff and volunteers. Scout is a friendly laid-back orange and white tabby boy who is about three years old. He enjoys looking out the window but is also very playful and loves chasing plastic toy balls--and anything else that moves. Scout gets along well with other cats and children. At some point, a nerve in Scout's left eye was damaged causing his pupil to enlarge. Scout has seen a veterinary ophthalmologist who reports that Scout's vision is fine and his dilated pupil is not painful. The pupil can be constricted with the daily use of prescription drops but this is not necessary for his vision. Scout is a wonderful boy who really deserves a good home. For more information about Scout, please contact Debby @ 301-916-0936/email dss2184@aol

Please call Laurie @ 301.770.9102 / badseed@erols.com (be sure to put cats or kittens in the subject line).
Givenchy/Foster is being cared for in a foster home.  He is a 4 year old gray DSH.  He is current on all his shots and is already neutered.  He is a sweet cat looking for a perfect place to call home.  If you live in the Maryland/Virginia area and can give this nice boy a great home, please contact the foster, Diane @ 301-593-1294/email ds88b@nih.gov to meet him.

Hestia/Foster is a 1.5 year old, gorgeous blue cream tortie being cared for in a foster home. She is up to date on all her vaccinations and will be spayed on 2/27/08. Hestia is a petite girl, weighing only 6 pounds. She is a real cuddle-bug and enjoys giving affection as much as receiving it. She always uses her litter box and gets along with other cats. She is not too crazy about the dogs in her foster home, but is coming around to them slowly. Although there are no children in her foster home, when kids come to visit her she seems very pleased. If you would like to meet this bright-eyed sweetheart, please contact her foster mom, Steph @ 301.920.0429/ email stephanie.dickey@gmail.com
