MCHS has three spay/neuter programs to help the community

#1 For pets adopted from the County Animal Shelter

Thank you for adopting! As you know, you are required to have your pet(s) spayed or neutered per your adoption agreement.

If the adopted animal has not yet been altered, you must purchase a reduced-cost spay/neuter coupon at the time of adoption. This coupon covers the cost of the surgery ONLY. Please keep in mind that participating veterinarians charge differently for pain medication, IV fluids, blood work, etc., and these charges are not included in the cost of the coupon. We recommend that you contact two or more veterinarians on the list of participating veterinarians to determine your final cost.

If you have adopted your pet from MCHS, click here to see the list of vets that provide MCHS adopters with a complimentary first examination, charge MCHS reduced fees, and/or participate in the Reduced-Cost Spay/Neuter Program.

#2 Other Pets: for those county residents get their pet from a source other than the County Animal Shelter

Even if you have not adopted your pet from the MCHS, but you are a Montgomery County resident, there are many veterinarians in Montgomery County that will provide you with a reduced-cost spay or neuter. Fees are based upon your family's income, per Categories 1, 2 and 3 on the form.

Costs for reduced-cost spaying/neutering are listed on the coupon and vary by income level.

To apply, please print the spay/neuter application from the PDF file below. Mail the completed form, proof of income as required, payment, and a self-addressed, stamped business sized envelope to:

#3 Low-Income Assistance: County residents who meet Federal HHS Poverty Guidelines with a pet from a source other than the Montgomery County Animal Shelter

If you wish to apply for a subsidy, please contact our office 240.773.5960 for a Subsidy Application. You will need to furnish a copy of your most recent IRS Form 1040 and the Card ID# of your Public Assistance, Medical Assistance or Food Stamps card.

This program is available through the participating veterinarians who donate to this program. Residents who meet qualifications will be accepted. Those who do not qualify may apply for the MCHS Reduced-Cost Program (see option #2 above). The pets of residents qualifying for this program may receive from the veterinarian a pre-surgical examination, blood work, pain management if needed and vaccinations at a flat fee of $50.00.
